Leek - ‘Musselburgh’

A reliably hardy mid-season variety producing heavy crops of short, thick stems with an excellent flavour.

Sow seeds indoors from January to February, 1cm deep in modules of free-draining seed compost. Place in a propagator or cover with a plastic bag at a temperature of 10-15C until after germination.

Once germinated, grow on in cool conditions until all risk of frost has passed.

When 20cm tall, acclimatise  to outdoor conditions before transplanting into rich, fertile, well-drained soil in sun or semi shade. Using a dibber create a deep planting hole and lower the leeks in and fill each hole with water.

23cm between plants and 30cm between rows.
